Overview

The Reina Wireless Programmable Thermostat provides automated temperature control for compatible electric radiators and electric towel warmers. Designed as a two-part system, the kit includes a battery powered digital thermostat transmitter and a separate mains powered radio frequency (RF) receiver. The thermostat communicates wirelessly with the receiver, removing the need for a hardwired control cable between the thermostat and the heating element.

Electrical installation must be carried out by a suitably qualified electrician in accordance with current UK electrical regulations and the manufacturer's installation instructions.

Primary Purpose and Functionality

The system regulates room temperature by instructing the connected heating element when to switch on and off according to programmed temperature settings.

• Seven Day Scheduling: Custom heating programmes can be assigned throughout the week to suit different daily routines.
• Manual Override: The target temperature can be adjusted immediately without removing the programmed weekly schedule.
• Boost Setting: Provides a temporary period of increased heating when additional warmth is required.
• Frost Guard: Automatically activates the heating when the room temperature falls below the selected frost protection level.

How the Wireless System Works

The thermostat itself is battery powered, while the receiver is connected to the mains. This distinction is important: the heating installation still requires a mains electrical connection, but there is no need for a wired connection between the thermostat and the receiver.

1. Wireless Digital Thermostat
   The battery-powered thermostat measures the room temperature and provides the controls for programming heating schedules and temperature settings.

Heating elements with integrated thermostatic or digital controls have their own control system and would not normally require this external thermostat.

Electrical Connections and Installation

The wireless nature of the thermostat does not remove the need for a mains electrical connection. The receiver is the component that connects the thermostat system to the heating element.

• Mains Supply: The electrical supply is connected to the RF receiver, typically from the appropriate switched fused spur.
• Receiver to Heating Element: The receiver is wired to the compatible heating element and controls the electrical supply to it.
• Thermostat Power: The digital thermostat is battery powered and does not require a mains cable.

Bathroom Installation

The battery-powered thermostat does not require a mains electrical connection, allowing it to be positioned separately from the receiver. However, its permitted bathroom location should follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.

The RF receiver is mains powered, so its permitted location must be determined according to its electrical and ingress protection rating and the applicable bathroom zoning requirements. The receiver should therefore be installed in accordance with the supplied installation instructions rather than assuming that all receiver installations are suitable for a particular bathroom zone.
