Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Single and Double Ended Baths?

The definition of a single ended bath or double ended bath is based on how many ends you can lay down in. A single ended bath will have one sloped end for you to lay in whilst the other is vertical. A doubled ended bath both ends are sloped so you can lay at either end, or if you are sharing the bath you can both relax at the same time!

What is a shower bath and how does it work?

In essence a shower bath is simply any bath that has a shower over it. However, some baths are made specifically for this purpose and come with certain features.

The first thing to consider is that you can’t, or at least shouldn’t, stand up to shower in the sloped end of a bath. The standing position is too far forward and the temptation is to step back which will be onto a slippery, sloped surface!

The bath should have an edge which is flat and wide enough to have a shower screen fitted (unless you are using a curtain).

Some baths are marketed specifically as shower baths and these are generally called P-Shaped baths or L-Shaped baths, they are named as such as the shower end of the bath is wider than the sloped/non showering end. This is either curved to make a P-Shape, or squared off to make an L-Shape.

These are clever designs as they provide much more room for you to stand and shower in, usually have a screen the same shape as the bath, but don’t require the depth to be the full length of the bath.

A common size for a bath such as this would be 1700mm long and 700mm at the bath end and 850mm at the showering end.

Do I need special taps for a freestanding or roll top bath?

Generally, the answer is yes. If the model you have opted for has a specific ledge or already drilled tap holes then you may be able to use standard bath taps but will probably need some standpipes to hold them in place. If that part of the bath is visible then perhaps consider some exposed standpipes to cover the pipe work.

Most Freestanding baths do not have tap holes or the ability to drill them, in these instances you will need to either opt for a freestanding/floor mounted bath tap, or if installing close to a wall then you could opt for a wall mounted tap.

There are a multitude of beautiful options, fabulous finishes and gorgeous styles for you to choose from.
